Flu Shots in September?

Box of KleenexIt’s fall! The weather is lovely, fall colors are everywhere, and the holidays will soon be upon us—and, for many of us, so will coughing, sneezing, fever, aches, chills, tiredness…ugh! Yes, we’re headed into flu season again.

Flu season commonly peaks in the Unites States between December and February, but seasonal flu cases can begin as early as October and last until late May. That’s why it’s never too early to prepare for flu season. To stay healthy and avoid getting the flu, you know to eat right and get plenty of rest whenever possible, wash your hands frequently, and stay away from sick people. But the best way to prevent the flu is to get a flu shot!

It’s recommended that everyone 6 months of age and older get a yearly flu vaccine. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), “While there are many different flu viruses, the seasonal flu vaccine is designed to protect against the main flu viruses that research suggests will cause the most illness during the upcoming flu season. People should begin getting vaccinated soon after flu vaccine becomes available, ideally by October, to ensure that as many people as possible are protected before flu season begins.”

So you know getting vaccinated is important, but where’s the best place for you and your family to get their flu shots? Hillcrest Medical, of course! Our team of caring professionals will make sure getting your vaccinations is easy and virtually pain free. Then you can head into this year’s flu season knowing you’ve done one of the most valuable things you can do to safeguard your family’s health!
